Operation Overload
Canadian forces were involved in Operation Overlord, an invasion of France. At first bad weather created a delay on June 5th, 1944. D-Day had to be rescheduled to the next day. The Canadians in Operation Overload were assigned to Juno beach. They faced many obstacles including concrete bunkers, barber wire barriers, land mines, anti-tank defences and large machine gun fire. The 14 000 Canadians somehow made it past German defences and ended up going further inland then any other Allied force. D-Day was a success. Canadian forces continued advancing but began losing many forces. This was a success due to improved technology and methods of fighting that were changed after Canada's failure at Dieppe.
